• Butterfly Conservatory - Niagara Parks

The Niagara
Parks Butterfly Conservatory contains exotic greenery, flowing
water and approximately 2,000 butterflies, of over 50 different
species, moving through a climate-controlled, 11,000 sq.ft.
conservatory. Guests can witness the various stages of butterfly
development, from eggs and larvae to full adult. A short video
presentation and interactive stations are included in the
tour. There are 3 educational programs available: these include
the Parts of a Butterfly (grades 2 to 5), and Colours and
Patterns (grades 5 to high school). A 20 minute in-depth presentation
is followed by a question and answer period. The group then
proceeds into the Conservatory. |
• Fort George National Historic Park
| Fort George
is a restored War of 1812 British Fort, featuring refurbished
buildings, guides in costume and period activities. Of interest
is the Fort's overnight educational program, where students
live like 1812 soldiers over a 20 hour period. |

| Journey by elevator
down to water level and be thrilled from the "Whitewater
Boardwalk” by the sight of the spectacular Whirlpool
Rapids. The Whitewater Boardwalk is located at the very edge
of the Niagara River. The Great Gorge Adventure is popular
with artists, historians and geologists, as well as visitors
from all over the world. It is a beautiful stroll as the boardwalk
is 305 meters (1,000 feet) long. |
• Journey Behind the Falls - Niagara

| The Journey
Behind the Falls is located in the Table Rock House Plaza
beside the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.After donning protective
rain coats, you will descend by elevator to a network of tunnels.
The main tunnel leads to the observation deck beside the Horseshoe
Falls. Two other tunnels provide a close-up view of the Falls
from behind. The tunnels extend only about 150 feet behind
the waterfall, so there is not a lot of walking. The excursion
is completely self-guided, which allows you to explore at
your own pace. |
• Niagara Glen Nature Reserve - Niagara

| As you leave
the parking lot, you descend a flight of stone steps, taking
you down the bank of what was the Niagara River of over 9,000
years ago, to the flat area on which the picnic grounds are
located. Looking across to the American side, you may see
an opening in the brush where a path will take you down the
side of a gorge to a flat trail that follows along the edge
of the river. As you walk down to the river, you will pass
through three major plateaus that were created by different
erosional processes as the Falls retreated through this area. |

• Brian McFrlane's Hockey Museum
| Brian McFarlane
is Canada's foremost hockey historian. On display is his remarkable
collection of pictures and memorabilia collected over the
years in his capacity as author of over 40 hockey books and
as a hockey commentator for 25 years. It is also the home
of Peter Puck. The museum offers "hands-on” experiences
for kids, like holding Mario Lemieux's, or Wayne Gretzky's,
stick or trying assorted goalie masks and old time hockey
gloves. |

| The Fun House
is for children of all ages. We feature a jungle run, leaning
walls, mystery doors, sway walk, chalkboards, net climb, camel
back, air jets, rolling barrel, go to jail, punching bags

• Maid of the Mist Boat Tours
| The Maid of
the Mist has been operating since 1846. Our boats take you
into the basin of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Raincoats
are provided. The tour lasts approximately 30 minutes. |

Niagara's fascinating Whirlpool is from high over-head aboard
the world famous Niagara Spanish Aero Car. The Niagara Spanish
Aero Car operates from March to the end of October (weather
permitting). |

• Historic Fort Erie - Niagara Parks

| During the War
of 1812, the site was occupied by American forces who used
this strategic location as the base of their operations for
the invasion of Upper Canada. An educational program is offered.
The Soldiers' Lot explores the life of the common soldier
stationed in Upper Canada. Discussions include recruitment,
pay, rations, duties, and pastimes. Students participate in
period games and pastimes, role play as soldiers and participate
in foot drill. The program will be tailored to meet the needs
of the age of the students. |
• Laura Secord House - Niagara Parks
Commission
| Visit the home
of Laura Secord, heroine of the War of 1812. From her home
in Queenston village, Laura set out on a 32 km walk through
the American lines and over wild and unsettled country to
warn the British Forces of an impending attack at Beaverdams.
Today, costumed interpreters thrill you with authentic furnishings
of the 1812 period.The Laura Secord House is located in the
quaint village of Queenston. |

• MacKenzie Heritage Printery - Niagara
Parks Commission
| The MacKenzie
Heritage Printery is located in the restored home of William
Lyon MacKenzie. The 500 year history of letterpress printing
is explored using the working presses and typesetting facilities
within the museum. Students will be encouraged to discuss
the ramifications of this labour-intensive method.Working
in groups, the students will co-operate in setting type from
the "job case” and printing a “Printer's
Indenture” on the museum's cast iron flat bed press.
Students will look at methods used by MacKenzie to publish
and produce his Colonial Advocate. |
• McFarland House - Niagara Parks Commission
| Experience gracious
living 1840's style at McFarland House as costumed interpreters
guide you through this beautiful home. Built in 1800, it was
used as a hospital during the War of 1812. Explore the period
herb garden, relax and enjoy home baking, tea and other refreshments
at the McFarland Tea Garden. Knowledgeable interpreters and
guides share with you the experiences, recollections, observations
and artifacts which defined early life in Niagara. |
